Our Uniform Story

Jordan Springs Public School Uniform Story

The school has developed a conceptual story that sits with our uniform, the man-made components of the school and its soft furnishings have all contributed to build a beautiful narrative for Jordan Springs Public School.

Some of the concepts we have engaged as inspiration for this story are as follows:

·       Reflecting the Foundation Year of Operation 2020

·       The natural elements of the site from which the school is built

·       Acknowledgement of the Indigenous communities and cultural practices

·       The conceptual design from which the architects have created the school

Reflecting the Foundation Year of Operation

There was a significant focus within our concept to acknowledge the foundation year from when the school became a part of the community of schools in NSW Public Education. The Patone colour for 2020 is Classic Blue.

Pantone's Color of the Year Is a Comforting Start to 2020. Here’s What to Know About the Choice. Ahead of the start of a new era that will no doubt bring intense new challenges, the Pantone Color Institute has announced that its 2020 Color of the Year is PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue, a deep blue shade that’s at once comforting and relatable.

The indigo hue brings to mind both the constant and the classic; the sky at dusk, an impeccably tailored suit, serene waters, or a bowl of perfectly ripe blueberries.

“It’s a reassuring blue, full of calm and confidence. It builds connection.”

Pressman said that Pantone felt that the color highlighted dependability, trustworthiness, credibility, and constancy, all traits that are valued in the fast-paced, high-stress situations of the current world. She also pointed out that the deep blue matches that of the sky at dusk, which provides an apt example of why this color can resonate with so many people.

“The sky at dusk – it’s not a midnight blue, it’s thoughtful, but it’s not so deep and mysterious,” she said. “It speaks to our feelings of anticipation, when you think about the sky at dusk, the day isn’t over. You’re thinking, what’s ahead of us? It’s reassuring, but thought-provoking. It highlights our desire for this dependable, anchoring foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era. We’re living in a time that requires trust and faith and confidence. We all see this blue sky and can relate to it, it’s approachable.”

Indeed, the color seems especially fitting for this moment in time; the hue is both genderless and seasonless, making it both accessible and desirable, for people in all walks of life. Additionally, its indigo shade can be achieved naturally from plants and dyes, making it a color that aligns well with the sustainability movement.

A timeless and enduring blue hue, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue is elegant in its simplicity. Suggestive of the sky at dusk, the reassuring qualities of the thought-provoking PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue highlight our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era. – PANTONE.COM

The natural elements of the site from which the school is built

The graphics package that was established with the conceptual designers of the school to reflect the ADI site from which Jordan Springs as a community has evolved. It has created a suite of colours and designs that show the flora and fauna of the landscape as well as the earthy tones reflective of our indigenous people.

These are sublimated within the school shirt design and complimentary of graphics package from the conceptual designers.

Acknowledgement of the Indigenous communities and cultural practices

The Aboriginal Consultative Education Group is a significant partner in both the creation and ongoing cultural development of Jordan Springs Public School. The images and design principles within the graphics package were endorsed and supported through this relationship.

They have provided us with totems of significance for the school and they work to act as building identifiers for the school and also support our uniform design with the logo being the kangaroo, a very prominent part of the original site for the local community, and also one that endorses our future focused vision of only always moving forward, whilst always respecting the past.

Conceptual design from which the architects have created the school

The school has the design principles that centre around the elements within nature. The building and furnishings reflect and encompass the earth and its inhabitants such as flora and fauna. The colour palette specifically associates earthy tones of ochre, pistachio, mulberry and charcoal. All of the windows and structural components of the building enable the whole school to be seen from every focal point of the school.

In order to have all facets of our elements represented within the school landscape, the fixed features compliment the earth, flora and fauna and our school uniform represents the water and sky elements. This completes the picture of the environment as we look out of the windows or through the gates of the school, we can see the fluid motion of the sky and water in the children as they move, learn, grow and play through their uniform.
